PixelForge SFX - 71 Retro Game Sound Effects
A downloadable asset pack
71 sounds. One afternoon of work you never have to do.
Prototyping is fun until you need a coin sound, and a jump, and a hurt, and six footstep surfaces, and suddenly you have thirty browser tabs of results with unclear licences.
PixelForge SFX is a complete starter soundscape for a 2D game, in one download.
Hear it before you buy. The 36-second preview below plays every one of the 71 sounds in order, and it is a free download - no purchase needed.
What's inside
- UI (11) - click, hover, confirm, cancel, error, toggles, notification, tab, typewriter, purchase
- Pickups (7) - coin, gem, health, ammo, key, power-up, XP
- Combat (13) - sword swing/hit, punch, two explosions, laser shot/charge, gunshot, arrow, shield, parry, enemy hurt/death
- Player (7) - jump, double jump, land, dash, hurt, death, respawn
- Footsteps (18) - grass, wood, stone, metal, water, snow, three takes each
- World (9) - door open/close, chest, lever, teleport, portal hum, splash, fire, electric
- Feedback (6) - level up, quest complete, unlock, fail, game over, victory
Mastered, not just exported
- Peak-normalised to exactly -1.0 dBFS, so your levels match and nothing clips
- DC-offset corrected and edge-faded, so there are no clicks on playback
- Trimmed tight, so sounds trigger instantly with no dead air
- Mono 44.1 kHz 16-bit, which is what engines want for positional audio
- WAV and OGG versions of all 71 sounds
Three takes per footstep surface, because one repeated footstep sample turns a walk cycle into a machine gun. Round-robin them with Godot's AudioStreamRandomizer, a Unity AudioClip array, or an Unreal Random node.
Licence
Royalty-free, unlimited commercial use, no attribution required. Ship it in a game you sell and owe nothing. You just cannot resell the pack itself.
Made with code, not recordings
Every sound is synthesised from scratch by a purpose-built DSP engine. No samples, no recordings, no scraped audio, nothing to clear. The engine and the sound recipes were written with AI assistance, which is why this page carries the AI disclosure tag. The audio itself is the deterministic output of that code, and every file is checked against a measured quality gate.
